Copenhagen
Hellerup Parkhotel in Copenhagen
Arrival
In many ways, I felt as though I entered a time warp as soon as I parked my car in front of the hotel: There is free parking!!! In the centre of town !! With free spots!!! It felt like winning a lottery!
The next throwback was the classic red carpeted stairway to the hotel entrance, with a bit of gold dotted about, stunningly diverse art, colours and an atmosphere of elegance and friendliness.
I was received in time-honoured “old-fashioned class”, making me feel like a princess. I wish more hotels had this talent. The staff works no harder here than anywhere else; they simply give out more smiles, kindness, hospitality and sincere warmth with no snobbery.
A great start.
Design
There is no doubt large sums were spent on the mostly modern art and decor of this hotel.
This modern version of luxury and decadence in pop-art style, with Marilyn Monroe in full size on the wall, shimmering mannequins, giant pang-orange vases and colourful armchairs in gorgeous wool sets a unique tone. With most of the boutique hotels in Europe gravitating towards the same style of cool minimalism with wood and wool or the fashionable velour sofas in burnt colours, the distinctive flair of the Hellerup Parkhotel certainly stands out.
This hotel has taken a completely different direction. Here they have both gone back in time with several retro elements as well aso full speed on a modern look. Though I may not be a personal fan of this style, I can still admire and respect the choices and execution.
Ambiance
The atmosphere here is relaxed yet respectable. It is a place where business guests look for a home away from home, and it seems to be working. You can be dressed well and relaxed, though never too relaxed. This is a small metropolitan hotel, friendly and homey and located in the more expensive area of Copenhagen. Mostly business people and not many tourist families
Room
I got the “park suite” and it came with the best bed I have ever slept in. No joke! The room also consisted of a hallway with cupboards, bathroom, a sleeping area with bed, table and chairs as well as a couple of stairs leading up to a staggered area with sofa arrangement and desk. The feeling of a been treated like a princess continued with little gifts in the form of a kimono and chocolates on the bed. I could get used to this! ;-)
Again… the decor is not my style, but I surrendered to it as it became clear to me that this hotel really wants their guests to have the best possible stay and they are doing their absolute best to succeed.
The Bed
The hotel only has a few rooms with this amazing bed. It is a bed that has been built in the hotel room and it costs a fortune! This highly technological modern day version of the 80’s waterbed comes with massage programs, tempered warmth, unique pressure relief and much more- perfectly designed for a peaceful sleep.
For this bed alone, it’s worth booking into this hotel. It must be experienced!
Restaurant
The hotel has two restaurants: the Hellerup Klub Brasserie which is on the street and the hotel’s own Restaurant Helmut.
Hellerup Klub Brasserie is French -inspired. Or at least, I felt as though I was in Paris while eating my lobster lasagna with delicious white wine. The service was top-form, the decor classic and the other guests looked very Parisian chic. I loved it!
Overall
Perfectly located in the posh area of Copenhagen, close to a small harbour,
a beautiful park and shopping streets
One of the best small business hotels in the city with its amazing service,
privacy and super vibe
The bed! The bed! The Bed!
I love a hotel with kimonos instead of bathrobes
